Championship Swimmer?

Last summer on a whim, my daughter decided she wanted to try out for the swim team. Without ever having a lesson. OK a couple of lessons, her pre school offered swim lessons but the instructor was so mean she made her cry every time and I pulled her from the lessons! Damn I'd like to run into her today, but that's another story! Anyway, before we went I gave her the don't be disappointed speech, if you don't make the team we can get you lessons and try again, blah blah blah. I also went through how different being on a team is compared to swimming in Aunt Candy's pool for fun. Well she made the team.

Yesterday was her last ESSL team meet. She didn't swim back stroke and instead was put into butterfly. I was a little aggravated because because back is one if not her strongest stroke. All I could think was why, why take her out of her best stroke and put her in a stroke she can barley swim! Last time she did butterfly she got disqualified and the time before she just made it to the end of the pool! Little did I know my girl has been sand bagging!! This kid swam like a rocket. I'm pretty damn sure she got herself qualified for butterfly. She has gone to practice a minimum three times a week and in 7 short months has made it to the ESSL Championships!! She has worked so hard at this. I can't tell you how proud of her I am! I don't have all the "official" particulars yet but I think she will be swimming a 25 and 50 yard Freestyle, a 25 Yard Backstroke and depending on her time yesterday a 25 yard Butterfly.

It was especially exciting for her because her cousin James showed up! What a surprise for her to look up in the stands and see Daddy holding baby James.
